3D Drucker… Imprimante 3D…Impresión 3D — ‘3D Printing’ Around the Globe

While we are an English speaking media source, we cover numerous stories each day from around the globe, many in places where the primary language is not English. The 3D printing phenomenon certainly isn’t solely an American one or an English one, it’s global!

We thought it would be fun to concentrate on a few of the global regions who are leading the way within this exciting space, looking at some of the companies and terms used within those regions:

3D Drucker – Germany

As the leading economy in the European Union, Germany is an invaluable source of research as well as commerce around the 3D printing space. The German translation of ‘3D Printing’ is 3D Drucker, and the 3D Drucker industry in Germany is a thriving one. With major companies such as iGo3d, German Reprap, EOS, Envisiontec and voxeljet, Germany is a 3D Printing powerhouse. For a nation that is no larger than the size of California, their 3D printing footprint is huge.

It’s not just businesses that are setting up shop around the technology in Germany, but German consumers are also rapidly warming to the technology. As you can see by the Google Trends chart below, the phrase ‘3D Drucker’ is being searched for at an increasing rate, over the last five years or so. With the strongest economy in Europe, Germany will likely lead the way in this ‘3D Drucker’ space over the next several years as consumers continue to adopt the technology and new startups emerge.

Imprimante 3D – France

While one doesn’t particularly associate France or the French language with 3D printing, the Imprimante 3D space in France is a thriving one, thanks in part to the  DIY/Maker communities. While there are thousands of French speaking individuals who own 3D printers, something that’s apparent if you were to search 3D Hubs for those wishing to rent time out on their machines (there are 160 hubs listed in Paris alone), there are also numerous Imprimante 3D businesses headquartered in the country. In fact, one of the largest 3D printing service bureaus, Sculpteo, calls France home, as too does Prodways.

As for Google searches for the phrase ‘Imprimante 3D,’ the trends report below shows a clear upswing in searches over the last few years as well. Remember though that the French language is also commonly spoken in Tunisia, Algeria, and several other European countries, so many of the Imprimante 3D searches being conducts are coming from a global audience.

Impresión 3D – Spain

With over 405 million individuals speaking Spanish across the world, you would think that there would be a larger footprint when it comes to the Spanish 3D printing community. The Spanish translation for ‘3D Printing’ is ‘Impresión 3D,’ which seems to be a rather common phrase in Spain itself, but the vast majority of Spanish speaking nations seem to be underwhelmingly representing the ‘Impresión 3D’ community.

While there are numerous businesses in Spain which cater to the industry, such as Lewihe, BCN3D, LEON3D, and more, BQ seems to be the biggest name of them all. BQ has put forth an affordable open source 3D scanner as well as their popular Witbox 3D printer. As the market matures and competition heats up within Europe, watch for Spain to eventually emerge as a major player within the industry. As for the other Spanish speaking nations in South America as well as Mexico, they all have some catching u to do.

By examining the Google Trends report below for ‘Impresión 3D’ searches one will see that unlike the other two charts above, the total monthly searches for the phrase ‘Impresión 3D’ is actual trending up over the last few months instead of plateauing.
